Findon Village Store Newsletter 1st October 2017

Store Update:

Anyone who glanced through the window in recent days will be able to see that huge strides have been made in our shop refurbishment. The Post Office has completed all the technical bits involving alarms and the server which has allowed our contractors to plough on. Local electrician Gez has worked his magic with the jumble of cables, and Steve Baker, who recently moved to the village and happens to run a company which specialises in commercial flooring, has been very helpful and is providing suitable flooring at a very competitive price. Dave and Mark the carpenters have worked wonders, building our new shelving. We hope that this will not only look attractive, respecting that our shop is such a pretty building full of period features, but also be more functional by allowing us to adjust the height and position, unlike the old shelving.

Volunteer Activity:

To you, our volunteers, we firstly say a big thank you to those of you who have been up at the crack of dawn, selling newspapers in our cabin – we applaud your resilience and hope you have thermal socks!

Thanks to our rubbish clearers, who have been heroic and saved us a fortune!

To everyone who joined our painting gang this week, what a splendid contribution and a massive difference you have made. We really appreciate your help.

If anyone is keen to pick up a paint brush this week, we are still painting daily, Monday 2nd to Friday 6th October. If you can help please let me know – we need you!

To everyone who has come forward to commit to working shifts in the shop – a huge ‘thank you’! I am overwhelmed by your kind offers of help. We could not run the shop viably without our wonderful volunteers working in the shop. We on the committee and as a community are hugely grateful for your ongoing support. We still have quite a lot of shifts to fill, particularly early mornings, evenings, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Volunteering jobs are detailed on the right of this page (or below). Please do take a look and let me know if you are able to offer your support. In particular, those of you with lovely handwriting – we can put your skill to good use in the next few weeks! I would offer a glass of wine to help you along, but fear names on the certificates might be wonky!

I am proud to join such a committed band of volunteers. Thank you and well done everyone!
